Registering for the examen civique: two operators, 60 to 80 euro and no limit on attempts

The two approved operators

The ministry names both on formation-civique.interieur.gouv.fr and service-public.gouv.fr repeats them. The ministry told the Assemblée nationale that both were approved in November 2025.

• The Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Paris Île-de-France. Registration is through francais.cci-paris-idf.fr, and the CCI's own page asks you to have your AGDREF number, the numéro étranger, ready when you register.
• France Éducation international. Its centres are mapped on france-education-international.fr and registration is through test-civique.fr.
• Both run centres across France. The ministry told the Assemblée nationale that on 26 May 2026 there were 444 centres d'examen covering every département.
• Outside France, service-public.gouv.fr says to contact the Institut français, the Alliance française or the consulate.
• The ministry's site is not a booking site. It says in so many words that it n'est pas possible de s'inscrire pour l'examen civique sur le site formation-civique.

What the fee is, and who sets it

• The ministry's answer to question écrite n° 11488, published on 11 August 2026, says the price is librement fixé par les centres d'examen and is compris entre 60 € et 80 €.
• The CCI Paris Île-de-France says on its registration page that fees are set by the test centre according to the ministry's recommendations and may vary from one centre to another.
• Neither operator publishes a single national price on its public pages. France Éducation international's test-civique.fr shows a login screen before any fee.
• Neither operator publishes a bundle of attempts. A retake means registering again, and the ministry's site says nothing about a second sitting being included.
• The preparation, by contrast, is free. The ministry says so on its own site.

When you can sit, and how often

• On demand, through the year. The ministry says il est possible de passer l'examen civique à tout moment et autant de fois que nécessaire.
• The ministry repeated it to the Assemblée nationale: les étrangers peuvent repasser l'examen civique autant de fois que nécessaire.
• There is no fixed monthly date and no national session. You pick a centre and a slot it offers.
• The one bar is fraud. The arrêté says a candidate caught cheating is barred from the exam dans les deux années qui suivent, and service-public.gouv.fr says the same.

On the day: what to bring and what happens

Annexe II and annexe III of the arrêté set the rules every centre applies.

• Your identity is checked before the exam from a valid titre de séjour, or from a passport or identity card only if you are a national of a European Union country.
• A photograph is taken before you sit and is printed on the attestation de réussite.
• Without an accepted document, or if you refuse the photograph, the invigilator does not let you sit.
• Phones and other electronic devices are forbidden, as are earpieces and earphones, with the exception of hearing aids.
• The paper is on screen and lasts 45 minutes at most, unless a medical adjustment has extended it.
